Step 1

The Leather

We source only the finest leathers, selected for their natural quality, texture and the way they develop character over time.

For most of our styles, we work with vegetable-tanned leather, a traditional and more natural process that results in a material that ages beautifully and improves with every wear.

STep 2

The Cut

Every upper begins with a precise cut, carried out by skilled craftsmen who understand that the silhouette starts here. Whether refining an iconic shape or developing something entirely new, this step lays the foundation for everything that follows.

Step 3

The Upper

The cut pieces are carefully lasted and stitched together, giving the shoe its structure, fit and form.

This is where craftsmanship becomes visible, in the tension of the lasting, the precision of the stitch and the silhouette that begins to take shape.

STep 4

The Sole

We offer a range of sole constructions to suit every need and occasion, from leather and half-leather soles for a classic dressed feel, to rubber soles for everyday comfort, through to Goodyear Welted construction for our most premium styles.

Each method is chosen with purpose, because the right sole is not just a foundation. It defines how the shoe wears, feels and lasts.

STep 5

The Finish

Every pair is finished by hand, with each shoe receiving its signature colour finish through careful polishing and treatment that brings out the depth and character of the leather.

It is in this final step that the shoe finds its identity, the warmth of a patina, the richness of a tone, the detail that makes it unmistakably Melvin & Hamilton.

Step 6

The Result

Before any pair leaves our workshop, every shoe passes through a final quality check, ensuring that even though no two pairs are ever identical due to the natural character of the materials and finishing, each one meets the exacting standards we have held since 1988.

The Art of Woven Leather

Every woven leather style begins with patience and precision. Each strip of leather is carefully cut and interlaced by hand, a process that requires both technical expertise and a refined eye for detail.

The result is more than texture — it is movement, depth and a construction that allows the leather to remain soft and flexible while ensuring lasting structure. A craft that cannot be rushed, and a finish that speaks for itself.


The Character of Embossed Leather

Through heat and precision, smooth leather is transformed into something with genuine depth and character. Inspired by the textures of the natural world, our embossed leathers reimagine the geometry of snakeskin and the richness of crocodile into refined, contemporary surfaces.
